10 Reasons to Choose Yemeni Sidr Honey in 2026
· UpdatedShare
There are many honeys labelled Sidr, and they are not all the same. These are the ten reasons Yemeni Sidr, and ours in particular, is worth what it costs.

1. It comes from the tree named in the Quran
The Sidr tree appears in the Quran in Surat Al-Waqi'ah (56:28), Saba' (34:16) and An-Najm (53:14–16), and honey in Surat An-Nahl (16:69). For many families that meaning is the first reason to choose Sidr, and it is why it is given at weddings, served to guests and brought to the sick.
2. Wadi Doan keeps the honey pure
Our Sidr comes from Wadi Doan in Hadramout, a deep valley walled by cliffs. At the Sidr peak there are no farms and no other flowers, so the bees have nothing to feed on but Sidr.
3. One tree, one season: the Baghyah harvest
We buy the Baghyah, the October peak: a 40-day window when Sidr blossom is all there is. It is the most monofloral Sidr the valley gives.
4. Made by Yemen's own bee
Apis mellifera jemenitica, Yemen's native honeybee, is heat-tolerant and naturally resistant to Varroa mites, so our beekeeper needs no chemical treatments.
5. Raw and cold-pressed, with nothing added
Pressed by hand in a stainless steel press. No heat, no filtering, no blending, no sugar feeding.
6. A number you can check

Every season we have our Sidr tested at ALS in New Zealand. 2026: Premium TA 26.8, Royal TA 33.4, both with a C4 sugar result of 1.0, and a certificate of origin for the batch.
7. Judged blind: Great Taste 2026
Great Taste is judged blind by food experts. Our Royal Sidr won 2 stars in 2026; the judges wrote "The flavour brings such delight." Our Premium Sidr won 1 star in 2025 and again in 2026, when the judges called it "An interesting and well-balanced honey."
8. A taste with layers
Deep floral sweetness, butterscotch, caramel and toffee, a subtle warmth and a finish that lingers. Not one-dimensional, and not overly sweet.
9. Rare by nature
A short window, remote valleys, a harvest that depends on the rain and the trees. Real single-source Sidr cannot be made in bulk.
10. Direct from our beekeeper
Our founder Tawfik has worked in Yemeni honey since 2008 and with our beekeeper since 2011. No traders sit between the hive and your jar.
How Yemenis enjoy Sidr at home
- A spoonful before breakfast, the most common habit.
- In warm tea or milk, kept below 40°C.
- With dates, the classic way to break the fast in Ramadan.
- As a Khalta, mixed with black seed and herbs.
Giving Sidr as a gift
Sidr is the honey Yemenis give for the moments that matter: Ramadan and Eid, weddings, the birth of a child, and visiting someone who is unwell. Our Great Taste Award Collection brings together all three of our 2026 winners.
What Sidr honey is not
- Not from any Sidr tree anywhere. Sidr from mixed farmland is usually multifloral.
- Not a medicine. It is a food with a long tradition and interesting research behind it.
- Not the same every season. Rain and flowering change it slightly each year. That is what a real, unblended honey does.
How to choose yours
