How to Buy Authentic Yemeni Sidr Honey in 2026: A Complete Guide
· UpdatedShare
Yemeni Sidr is one of the most imitated honeys in the world. The most common fakes are Sidr diluted with cheaper honey or syrup, Pakistani or Indian Sidr sold as Yemeni, and summer Marai honey sold as Sidr. This guide shows you what to ask for, what to check, and the tricks to watch for, whoever you buy from.

1. Buy from a Yemeni-owned brand with direct beekeeper sourcing
Every extra trader between the hive and your jar is another chance for honey to be mixed, relabelled or regraded.
What to look for
- A named founder you can find, with real experience in Yemeni honey. Ours is Tawfik Alhusam, who began in a honey shop in Sana'a in 2008.
- A named beekeeper relationship. Tawfik has worked with ours since 2011.
- A real origin: a valley, not just "Yemen".
2. Understand the two Sidr seasons
- Baghyah (البغية): the October peak, a 40-day window when bees feed on Sidr alone. The most prized.
- Marbai (المربعي): a spring secondary harvest after rain, lighter in Sidr.
Ask which season a honey is from. A seller who cannot answer is guessing.
3. Verify the lab certificate and the certificate of origin
Documents to ask for
- A lab report for the batch you are buying, from an independent laboratory, with a reference number. Ours is from ALS Food & Environmental, New Zealand: Premium Sidr TA 26.8 (ref. 26-01485-3), Royal Sidr TA 33.4 (ref. 26-01485-2).
- A C4 sugar test, which detects cheap cane and corn syrup. Ours reads "C4 sugar result 1.0".
- A certificate of origin confirming the honey is Yemeni.
- Independent recognition, where it exists. Our Premium Sidr won 1-Star Great Taste in 2025 and 2026, and our Royal Sidr 2-Star in 2026.
4. Check freshness: colour, aroma and texture
How to check
- Colour: fresh Sidr is warm amber-gold and darkens slowly with age.
- Aroma: strong, warm and floral the moment you open the jar. A faint smell is a warning.
- Texture: thick and smooth. It should fall from a spoon in a slow ribbon.
- Crystals: slow crystallisation starting at the bottom is normal for raw Sidr.
5. Know the fakes: seven tricks sellers use
- Diluting real Sidr with cheaper honey or sugar syrup.
- Selling Pakistani or Indian Sidr as Yemeni at Yemeni prices.
- Selling Marai (مرعي), a summer wildflower honey, as Sidr.
- Fake grading: selling Tabi'ah (secondary) as Premium, Premium as Royal, or ordinary as Royal.
- Selling spring Marbai as October Baghyah.
- Removing moisture to make thin honey look thick and golden.
- Mixing regions under one famous valley name, or claiming large quantities from a single source that could never produce them.
Five questions to ask any seller
- Which valley is this honey from?
- Which season: Baghyah or Marbai?
- Can I see the lab report for this batch, with its reference number?
- Is there a C4 sugar test and a certificate of origin?
- Who is the beekeeper, and how long have you worked with them?
Red flags at a glance
| Red flag | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Price far below the market | Diluted, relabelled or non-Yemeni |
| "Yemeni" with no region | Mixed origins |
| A lab report from a past year | Today's batch is untested |
| No person behind the brand | No one accountable |
| Very large volumes from one valley | Blended with other honey |
6. Common mistakes when buying Sidr honey
- Trusting a price far below the market. Genuine Yemeni Sidr is expensive even wholesale.
- Accepting a lab report that is not for the current batch.
- Buying from a seller with no named person behind the brand.
- Treating "thick" as proof. Moisture can be removed.
7. Where to buy authentic Yemeni Sidr honey in Australia
We sell Premium and Royal Yemeni Sidr from Wadi Doan, with the batch's lab report and certificate of origin, packed in Victoria.
Why choose DIVINEDROP?

Frequently asked questions
Why is Yemeni Sidr honey so expensive?
A short harvest in remote valleys, a limited supply that cannot be scaled, air freight, independent lab testing and packing all add up. We explain the full cost in why Sidr honey costs what it does.
How do I store Yemeni Sidr honey?
At room temperature, sealed, out of direct sun. No refrigeration.
Does Sidr honey expire?
Honey keeps for years when stored well. Its colour darkens and it may crystallise, which is natural.
What makes Baghyah Sidr better?
It is harvested when the bees feed on Sidr alone, so it has the highest Sidr content.
How can I tell if Sidr honey is fake?
Ask for the season, the valley, a current lab report with a C4 test, and a certificate of origin. If any are missing, keep looking.
Final thoughts
Before you buy, ask for four things: the valley, the season, the batch lab report and the certificate of origin.
